2006 Get in Gear 10K

Posted 04.29.2006 in Running at 2:47 PM

Wow, what a crappy day for running! The temperature was 47 degrees with an east wind at about 15mph and a constant drizzle. The gun split called out at mile one was 10:20, while my split at mile two was 18:45–quite a bit faster than I wanted. I was trying to keep up with two women running a strong pace, but they left me in the dust by the half-way point. My gun split at the 5K mark was 28:30 and I ended up with a 55:28 chip time (a new 10K PR). My legs feel pretty good and the only issues I had were the crappy weather (I can already feel a cold coming on) and my aerobic performance (my breathing was heavier than normal for almost the entire race). I am going in the right direction with this race, though:

  • 1999 – 1:01:15 (9:53 pace)
  • 2002 – 1:07:04 (10:48)
  • 2003 – 1:00:32 (9:45)
  • 2004 – 0:55:41 (8:58)
  • 2005 – 0:57:43 (9:18)
  • 2006 – 0:55:28 (8:56) – PR

Up next: the 2006 Heart of the City Half Marathon in Burnsville, Minnesota on June 3, 2006.
