Sugarbrooke Golf Course Notes

Yesterday we ventured north from the Twin Cities to the Grand Rapids area for a day of golf. First stop was Sugarbrooke Golf Course, located at Ruttger’s Sugar Lake Lodge resort.

Sugarbrooke is a 6,534 yard, par 71 golf course designed by Joel Goldstrand that opened in 1995. Many of the holes reminded me of Hidden Greens near Hastings–lots and lots of trees.

This is a resort course, but several of the holes played much harder than a typical resort course, specifically the long, narrow, par-4 sixteenth hole (444 yards from the blues) and the challenging par-3 fifth (211 from the whites).

We played in the rain, which the course seemed to need. The conditioning on some of the fairways was spotty and a few greens had just been punched in spots that needed repair.

With green fees of just $30, though, it’s hard to complain…
