How can you pass up high quality cheap entertainment? At $12 to get in the door last night, 4onthefloor at First Avenue was too good to miss. In a nutshell:
- Good crowd (although not everyone stuck around through the encore)
- Rupert was, of course, there
- Openers Retribution Gospel Choir played what had to be close to a thirty minute jam
- Missed the Heartbeats set, but I liked the song they played during the encore
- So sad they didn’t play Wolves at the Door – I’ve only heard it live once at Lake Harriet
- Lots of great standards, though: Lionhearted, Workin’ Man Zombie, Junkie, Magic Trick, Irish Tune, On Tuesdays, Undertow, Bricklayer, Not Tonight, Howl for Me, For Pa/(For Ma), Wait
- Loved the cover of Neil Young’s Down by the River
- Gabe said they are going to record a new album in Duluth soon and played one song from it (Watch it Burn?)
These guys are so fun to watch – catch them if you can…
UPDATE: A few tweets from the band (@4otf):
@kingsbury glad you enjoyed the NY song! we’ve played it outstate a lot, but notsomuch in MPLS, wanted to switch it up a bit.
@kingsbury thanks so much for coming out! New song was called “Pyre”, but recently I’ve been using “Bonfire”
@kingsbury “Wolves at the Door” on the next in town show set list hopefully. @davidbazan plays @FineLineMusic on 11/6 too!
