Trampled By Turtles @ First Ave

The day after my double-dip concert night, I was back at First Avenue with the whole family for Trampled By Turtles. As with all sold out shows there now, you really need to get there shortly after doors if you want a good spot, so we sat through opener Web of Sunsets from beside the soundboard. Colleen really didn’t care for them, but I was still glad we got there early for the good spot.

This was your “standard” (excellent) Turtles show – and I think the first time we got to hear most of the new songs from Wild Animals. The girls have basically worn out the CD playing Repetition, so I’m sure that was the highlight for them. For me, it’s basically any song that gets a Fiddle Turtle solo (aka Ryan Young) – that man is just freakin’ amazing. Erik Berry also made some magic with his mandolin, something I hadn’t really associated with them in the past.

Strangely enough, I didn’t see any of the music reviewers post anything on this show and setlist.fm has a slug for it, but nothing is listed so far. Guess I need to start taking notes again for some of these shows (or ask for the set lists from the engineer). We will be heading north in July to see them again at Bayfront Park, along with MK’s favorite John Mark Nelson, Actual Wolf, Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank, The Lowest Pair and Field Trip. Guessing there will be just a bit more coverage of that one…
