Does Minnesota need a new home for championship amateur golf?
After last week’s state high school golf championships and the end of the Gophers golf season, Minnesota amateur golf was in the spotlight. Do we have the appropriate venues for such events?
A good-sized crowd of kids and parents braved the cold and rain to spend time with Goldy Gopher and members of the men’s and women’s Gopher golf teams at the second annual Golfing with Goldy event today at the Les Bolstad golf course.
The day started out with free pizza and water, followed by demonstrations and trick shots by Gopher players. After a short Q & A session with golf director Brad James, participants broke into smaller groups for one-on-one tips from Gopher players and coaches on the driving range.
This year’s Golf with Goldy kids event is happening Saturday from 1pm – 2:30pm at the U of M Les Bolstad golf course driving range. From GopherSports.com:

Yesterday was Golf with Goldy day, held at the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Driving Range by the men’s and women’s Gopher golf teams. Our friends Brad James, Andrew Tank and Dee Forsberg-Voss helped organized a great, free event for kids.
Last week I broke down and decided it was time for golf lessons. My handicap index moved from 13.7 last fall to 17.0 currently, so it was time to do something. Instead of throwing new equipment at the problem, I decided to contact my old friend Gerald McCullagh and he referred me to Dee Forsberg-Voss at the University of Minnesota.
