7 Minute Miles

First Round of the Year

Yesterday I finally got out and played my first round of the year. I’m pretty sure this is the latest start ever, but it wasn’t for lack of trying.

Valleywood in Apple Valley was the destination and I was able to sneak out ahead of a senior event taking place later in the morning. The “Day Break” 18 hole walking rate was $25 – it will be interesting to see what specials courses offer this season to combat the tough economy.

The course was in decent early-season condition, with some repair work being completed on the 18th fairway. Despite my complete lack of off-season practice or driving range time, I still managed to shoot an 87 after stepping right up to first tee from the car.

Could this be the breakthrough year?
