New Home for Minnesota Am Golf?

Does Minnesota need a new home for championship amateur golf?

After last week’s state high school golf championships and the end of the Gophers golf season, Minnesota amateur golf was in the spotlight. Do we have the appropriate venues for such events?

The Gophers have long ago outgrown the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad course for competitions. The men’s team practices at the TPC Twin Cities course in Blaine and the annual Gopher Invitational is held at Spring Hill Golf Club in Orono.

The high school championships were held at three sites for the first time this year: Class AAA at Bunker Hills, Class AA at Ridges at Sand Creek and Class A at Pebble Creek.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a world-class tournament facility for amateur golf in Minnesota that could serve as the Gophers home course and the site for all three high school championships? Better parking, media facilities, spectator amenities and a great new layout with no housing would be a wonderful addition to the Minnesota golf scene.

Funding and location anyone?
