Beer & Scotch at The Wilderness

Wow, was that ever something. Colleen decided to drive up for the night so she could attend the Craft Beer and Scotch Tasting at The Wilderness Grill with me this afternoon. The $20 event was a great deal:

  • Mad River’s Steelhead Scotch porter & JW Lees Lagavulin cask aged beer. Fresh roasted chicken wings glazed in an Irish 2 Gingers Sauce, jalapeno poppers, reuben balls and onion rings.
  • 2 Ginger cocktails Big and Skinny’s. Ginger ale and fresh lemon & lime; 2 Ginger’s Manhattan (Tosti Sweet Vermouth), and a unique Irish Bloody Mary (wonderfully garnished). Spinach salad with soft boiled egg, Wilderness house vinagrette, dried cranberries and Granny Smith apples.
  • Johnnie Walker Red and Johnnie Walker Black. Sea scallops with warm bacon vinaigrette on spring mix. Diced smokey bleu cheese and rye toast points.
  • 2 Gingers Whiskey and Label 5 Scotch served neat. Vanilla bean ice cream sprinkled with home made Spanish peanut brittle, toffee & dark chocolate.

Usually at a tasting you expect small samples of each beverage, but this was pretty much nine full drinks over two and a half hours. Yikes. Tried them all, but pretty much skipped the Bloody Mary.

We didn’t win the main door prize, but did get Johnnie Walker hats and two little bottles of 2 Gingers. Also got in nine holes on The Wilderness and had birdies on 14 and 16 (Colleen rode along and kept score for me).
