Maslow’s First Two Levels

Don’t know why this stuck in high school, but I’ll always remember Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. As I go through my current housing transition, I’ve been thinking a lot about the foundation of Maslow’s pyramid – physiological and safety. Combined with a desire to reduce and simplify, here are my “needs” for housing:

  • Hot shower and soft towels
  • Warm, comfortable bed
  • Kitchen with fridge, microwave and oven
  • Desk/work area with decent Internet access
  • TV and stereo with good seating and lighting
  • Something personalized to hang on the walls
  • Washer and dryer

Some of those could probably be combined in one room and I’m sure the kids have their own ideas, but those are my basic goals for housing.

Next time I’ll look at stuff, activities and people…
