Doomtree Blowout 8 at First Ave

As usual, Chris Riemenschneider had a good write-up of the all-ages third night of Doomtree Blowout 8 Sunday at First Avenue. I’ll let you all go over there and read it if you want the details, but here are my quick takes:

  • I was pretty upset that Stef wasn’t there, but now that I know the full story, I completely understand (I thought he performed both Friday and Saturday before canceling Sunday).
  • Very happy Dessa did her solo songs – might just have to figure out a way to get to Lutsen in January after all.
  • Note to self: find out more about Aby Wolf.
  • That was the first time I can remember a runway at a First Ave show (this was my first Blowout).
  • Also the first time I can remember an intermission – just like an orchestra!
  • Mike Mictlan was impressive at Rock the Garden and was great here too, but I really thought Sims stole the show.
  • Second note to self: skip the long lines outside when you already have tickets and go to the middle door.
  • Ander Other didn’t look very healthy – is he sick too?
  • Get Down might be the best live dance song ever.

We visited the merchandise table before the show and hit the Depot afterwards for soft drinks and tater tots before heading home. Long school and work days on Monday, but I think all four of us would say it was worth it…
