I’ve wanted to see English band alt-J every time they’ve visited the Twin Cities, but somehow always missed out on tickets. When their September 17th show at Roy Wilkins Auditorium was announced, I made sure to hit the ticket sites right when they went on sale. Both kids wanted to go, so I ended up with three excellent seats straight across from the stage in the upper reserved section (albeit not side-by-side). Brooklyn-based San Fermin was also on the bill.
To be honest, I don’t really know the names of many alt-J songs, but I really like their sound. Joe and Gus have such unique voices, plus how can you not like a song about Matilda? I also didn’t know the delta sign story about how the ∆ symbol can be typed on a Mac with the key sequence Alt+J (thanks, Wikipedia). The entire evening was enjoyable, but the light show got to be a little much by the end. It was impressive (see the pics after the jump), but they were treading very close to seizure territory…
