When Colleen won tickets to see my teen crush, I didn’t really care that the show was on a Monday night – I needed to go. Plus it was at the Wurtele Thrust stage in the beautiful new Guthrie and our friends Cathy and John were already planning to go, so why not?
We met the Shusters for dinner before the show at Kindee Thai across from the theater. My chicken satay, cream cheese wontons and pineapple fried rice with dried cranberry, cashew nuts, egg and green onion were very tasty.
The show started right on time and the 63-year-old (now 64) Koala Blue co-founder played for a little more than 90 minutes. I don’t have a set list, but she played songs from her early albums, a little country, three songs from Xanadu, several Grease hits and a couple newer ballads.
A few I remember (in no particular order):
- Have You Never Been Mellow
- I Honestly Love You
- You’re the One That I Want
- Magic
- Physical
- Jolene
- Take Me Home, Country Roads
- Hopelessly Devoted To You
- Suddenly
- Please Mr. Please
- Summer Nights
- Grace and Gratitude
She will actually be at Black Bear on Wednesday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m. if you want to catch her again in Minnesota.
