When I heard that Interlachen was reversing the nines for the U.S. Women’s Open, I contacted head professional Jock Olson to get his take on this.
“Essentially, in both events (Solheim, U.S. Women’s Open) we reversed the nines because it made more sense logistically. With spectators entering and exiting at Meadowbrook Golf Course it just works better for that to be the back nine. Plus, our #9 hole makes a much better finishing hole. It is our signature hole, it is where Bobby Jones hit the famous Lily Pad shot and we can get many more spectators around this green.”
