7 Minute Miles

Record Collector

I found you on the road
on Croftville Way
a few summers ago
I had never seen anything like you before
only stories of how beautiful you were
you were the perfect square
crafted from oak and a deep brown metal
with the pristine silver needle
shining ever so slightly as the sun
reflected off of your metal edge
and the waves of Superior
hit the shore down by the bay
The people who gave you away had
a particularly unique taste in music
Records ranging from classic country
to “Sounds of the Loon”
(a record that is exactly what it says it is)
I lugged you home along Croftville Way
and fiddled around with you on the
floor of our classically nostalgic cabin
I found some speakers and your sound
was the most melodic I had ever heard
People always told me that music sounded
best when you played it
and when I heard you
I became a
Record collector
